With The Pico Laser, Tattoo Removal Is Easier And More Comfortable

Everything You Want to Know About Tattoo Removal

We get tattoos for plenty of reasons. After all, humans have been decorating their bodies with ink for thousands of years. But of course, our lives change. And as our tastes, priorities, and aesthetic goals transform, we start looking for ways to realign our appearance with those changes.

Thankfully, tattoos don’t have to be forever anymore. If your tattoos no longer serve you the way they once did, laser tattoo removal is a safe and effective solution. At SoCal Lazer & Medi Spa, we use gold-standard technology—the Pico laser—to remove no-longer-wanted ink from your body quickly and virtually pain-free.

How Does Tattoo Removal Work?

The Pico laser, short for picosecond laser, is a handheld device that emits bursts of laser energy into your tattoo. Each burst lasts an astonishing one trillionth of a second, and these extremely fast flashes break down the ink particles in your skin. As the particles dissolve, your body safely and naturally flushes them away.

Is Tattoo Removal Really Effective?

The Pico laser has revolutionized tattoo removal, making it easier than ever to remove even the most stubborn colors. Older methods like the nanosecond laser were notorious for requiring many lengthy and painful sessions to achieve results, often leaving scars behind. But the Pico laser is faster, and its results more complete.

The Pico laser is proven to be more effective and less painful than other methods, often requiring fewer sessions. And because of its rapid pulses, it doesn’t overheat cells in darker skin—meaning people of all skin types can remove tattoos without the risk of hyperpigmentation or scarring.

How Long Will it Take to Remove My Tattoo?

Depending on the size and complexity of your tattoo, the colors of the ink, and your skin type, tattoo removal can take several sessions. Some patients see results in two to three treatments, while others need closer to ten. We use the top technology so we can get the job done for you in as few sessions as possible.

If you want a tattoo removed for a special event like a wedding, the sooner you can start, the better. We recommend a minimum of six to eight weeks between sessions to give your body enough time to eliminate the ink and fully heal. Your provider will make a thorough assessment and create a personalized plan for you during your consultation.

What Should I Expect From the Removal Process?

When you arrive, we’ll apply a topical anesthetic cream to ensure your comfort throughout the session. On average, Pico laser sessions last 10-20 minutes, though the exact length of time will vary depending on several factors:

  • Size: the larger and more complex your tattoo, the longer it will take to treat.
  • Color: blacks and grays are the easiest to treat, followed by blues and greens. Warm, bright colors like reds, whites, and yellows typically take longer.
  • Location: the Pico laser can remove tattoos on all areas of the body. But because we want you to be as comfortable as possible, we take extra care with sensitive areas like the hands, feet, and neck.

After the session is over, your provider will review best practices for aftercare and schedule any follow-up appointments. Some patients feel mild discomfort and redness, but these should ease within 24 hours. You can return to your daily activities right away.
